Blood, Brunch and Rolaids
Apr 19th
This past Saturday was a busy day for the members of our household. I got up early to get my annual blood work done. Not wanting to break the routine, I walked the pup before leaving. I had to fast for the blood work hence why I waited until a Saturday to go in.
I arrived at the lab shortly after it opened and I thought that would be good news. How many other people would be early on a Saturday morning to get blood drawn? Lots, it turned out. I exited the elevator in the medical building and saw a line of people flowing out of the lab. This would not be a quick trip, I realized.
I got in line and slowly made my way into the waiting room where I handed over my documents to a short Filipino woman through a pass-through window. Every single chair in the room was occupied with the space in the middle of the room filled with people who were standing in place. The room smelled dingy, the walls were full of scoff marks and had missing plaster in some places. The people waiting to be seen had no regard for cleanliness as many of them sneezed and coughed without covering their mouths. I quickly retreated back to the hallway where there was a bit more breathing room.
“Total Devastation”

It’s been a busy couple of days for S and I in terms of entertaining friends. Our Friday night plans were a bit impromptu as our friend K let us know she’d be coming into the City but didn’t have any definite ideas on what she wanted to do. She had mentioned going shopping but in the end, we decided to stay home and order in.
We caught up on K’s dating adventures; she’s been on a few dates with one guy and it appears to be going well so far. She’s a great gal; why she’s single is really baffling so S and I are hoping that she finds someone who makes her happy.
When dinner arrived, we collected our dishes and retreated to the downstairs living room so that we could watch some TV. There wasn’t much on so we settled on “What Not to Wear.” We caught two shows, one where the woman had absolutely no self-esteem and kept crying anytime someone told her she was beautiful. The other show had a woman who had way too much self confidence and had become a nudist after being in a restrictive relationship. The transformations were interesting to watch although the make-up on the first girl was a bit on the heavy side.
After the second episode, K decided to call it a night. She had brought Hank with her and he’d spent the evening being growled at by the gal pal who didn’t appreciate having him in her space. It’s pretty funny to see, actually. Hank’s more than double her size, but he’s totally her bitch.
Art Bust
Apr 4th
Yesterday was an interesting day for S and I. We had plans to go see King Tut at the Art Gallery yesterday morning. After the gallery, I was going to meet up with a client to help her with some email questions she had and then I was going to pick up some chocolate cream pies that I had ordered.
Since everything was closed on Friday and I’d be home later in the afternoon yesterday, we didn’t really have time to go get groceries. To solve that problem, we resorted to our old friends at Grocery Gateway. We only decided to place an order late on Friday so most of the delivery times on Saturday were already taken. Beggars can’t be choosers so S booked the time slot that best worked for us, 7am-10am.
S got up early in case the groceries arrived closer to seven then ten. By the time I got up at eight, they still hadn’t arrived. Following my morning walk with the gal pal, S went to get ready and I awaited the groceries. They ended up arriving around nine, a time that S noted “all of the neighbours would be awake to see the delivery being made.”
Wouldn’t it be funny?

S’s friend P was over at the house yesterday in what was an interesting visit. It started off with a miscommunication about what exactly we would be doing. Initial plans had been to go shopping but those got changed. S and I were under the impression that P just wanted to hang out.
Upon arriving, P made it clear that she thought we were going shopping. “I wouldn’t have printed off the coupon if I didn’t think we were going shopping!” She was irritable and quick to snap so S and I gingerly walked around her.
It was decided that we’d stay home and forego the shopping for another day. P suggested we take the puppies for a walk since she had a few stores in the neighbourhood she wanted to stop in. S and I were going to take advantage of the opportunity to buy some chocolate cream pie.
“How serendipitous”
Mar 22nd
This weekend was going to be a busier one for us than last weekend. Unlike the previous week, we had plans with K to spend Saturday shopping, going out for dinner and then going to see Matt Damon’s new movie, Green Zone. On Friday, it was decided that we’d postpone the shopping part of the day a week to take advantage of better sales. The dinner and movie were still apart of the plan for the day.
Had we decided to stay home on Saturday, I would’ve attempted to make a chocolate cream pie; something S has been craving for a while. I’ve never made (or had) chocolate cream pie so it was going to be a new experience for me. Not wanting to disappoint, I had begun looking for recipes for pie shells and whipped cream. Our plans for dinner and a movie postponed the cream pie adventure.
Saturday was spent quietly as S organized her music library and I worked on a web site. We were going to catch the 7 o’clock showing of the movie as we figured the 10 o’clock showing would make for a long night. The earlier show meant getting an earlier dinner. K arrived shortly before five and S went online to see what time our favourite neighbourhood restaurant opened. “It opens at six,” S announced to us from behind her computer screen.
She searched for a few other places and found that they too only opened for business at six. “We can order pizza,” I suggested.
“This one is open at five,” S said finding another local place we could easily get to. “They only take cash though.”
Even though we’d never been to this particular restaurant, we figured we’d give it a try; especially since we were short on options.
