Lazy Day Ramble

How’s about a post that sort of babbles on? Ok!
I picked up our glasses today. On the way home, I opened the case containing S’s pair and was a bit alarmed; they looked a lot smaller than I remembered them being last week when she tried them on. “Oh no, this is not going to end well,” I thought to myself.
Luckily, the glasses were the right ones and S has been wearing them all afternoon. “Do these make me look geeky?” she asked me not long ago.
“No,” I replied. I asked if she was having doubts about them and she said she wasn’t. I thought they had a bit of a retro feel to them but they’re cool and she said herself earlier that they’re lighter and easier to see with than her previous pair.
The Costco Rage

I think I’ve documented a few times on here how S is prone to the rage. She’s got the kind of disposition where she loses her temper quickly; sometimes so quickly it’s like a flash of lightning. Incidents of the rage are most likely when S is hungry or putting together furniture or treadmills. This past weekend, we had not one, but two rage incidents.
The first happened on Friday evening when we returned home from work. I arrived home first, as is usually the case. While putting away dry cleaning in our bedroom, I noticed a wet spot on the bed. I asked the pup what was going on and she began to tremble. She jumped off the bed and I noticed that her backside was very, very dirty.
Back downstairs, I took out the pet scissors and cleaned up her backside as best as I could. What I couldn’t cut out, I figured I’d wash out. A quick bath and the pup was all pretty and fresh again.
Puppy First Aid

Both S and I have noticed lately that the gal pal’s nails have gotten quite long. We don’t usually clip them ourselves because we’re worried that we’ll injure her. We let the groomer take care of her nails as she gets groomed pretty regularly. I had written our friend the groomer on Saturday and asked about setting up an appointment. As of yesterday afternoon, I still hadn’t heard back from her.
After dinner, the gal pal was up on the couch in between S and I and her paws were outstretched. In amidst the long hair, I saw just how long her nails had gotten. I knew that it couldn’t be comfortable for her so I decided to clip her nails myself, at least the front ones.
I tidied up the kitchen after dinner and then collected the pup. Placing her on the counter to get a better view of her nails, I set about clipping them. The first one was a bit rough, but then I learned not to take too long with the clippers, best to just snap them quickly once in position. The pup flinched each time a nail was cut but she didn’t appear to be traumatized.
S came over to where we were as I was moving onto the second front paw. That one went pretty smoothly too. With both front paws done, I put the clippers down and turned away for a minute. “Look,” S said to me as she pointed down to the counter. There before us was a spot of blood. We picked up the second paw that I had clipped and noticed that the last nail was bleeding, profusely. I guess I nicked the quick when I clipped it.

A colleague of S’s enjoyed the last video I posted of the gal pal and requested that I share more videos of her. Who am I not to comply?
This was taken in February 0f ’08, the day after we had a huge snowstorm. You can see the pup loved bouncing around in it until she realized she was cold.

I’ve written about work more than I’ve meant to lately. How’s about some tales of fun nights spent with friends?
After two cancellations on our part, S and I were finally able to get together for dinner with our friends Christine and T. Both S and I had felt pretty bad that our stomach issues had resulted in our plans being postponed, especially since we wanted to celebrate Christine’s 29th birthday. This past Friday, we went out to a happening Sushi restaurant in our ‘hood.
S and I arrived at 7:30 and only two tables in the restaurant were occupied. Given a choice of seating, S and I elected to sit in the booth in the window. “Does this place ever get busy?” S asked me as we settled in to our seats. Not long after, we were joined by Christine and T.
Christine was as bubbly as ever as we chatted about what we’ve been up to the last few weeks. Christine is a regular reader of the blog so she came to dinner with a few questions for me regarding the breakfast with executives I had participated in earlier in the week. She and S exchanged stories of frustrating HR personnel at their respective companies and then I answered her questions about the breakfast initiative at the office.
