One gay gals' musings and observations while travelling on the streetcar

Sick of this Shit
Feb 2nd
I had a lovely experience on the TTC this afternoon. I was getting on a streetcar on my way home during rush hour. It was a bit tricky since I had a grocery bag full of items I had picked up and I had my backpack that I’d removed off of my shoulder to make it easier to navigate the crowded streetcar.
I flashed my metropass at the driver and then put it in my coat pocket while trying to juggle the two bags in my hands. “Behind the line,” the driver said.
I shifted where I was to get a better vantage point of how full the car was so that I could begin walking through it. That’s when it happened.
‘Berry on the Streetcar
Nov 19th
I found a Blackberry on the streetcar on my way home tonight. I looked through it and found the owner’s contact info. I called the number on the home screen and it was an office that was closed for the day so I e-mailed the girl at the two e-mail addresses she has set-up on the device.
I am guessing the girl will want to meet up tomorrow to get her phone back. That’s fine, I am home from work tomorrow; but I’m going to ask that she come out to where I’m at since I don’t particularly feel like travelling downtown on my day off.
It’s funny, one of the girl’s e-mail addresses was domain-specific so I checked out the site and saw that it is under construction. I’m guessing by the messages and notes on the phone that she’s a photographer. When we meet, I’ll give her some of my business cards and put a bug in her ear about setting up her web site.
Monday Rambles

My bitch didn’t show up for work today. I’m not sure why, I was under the impression she’d be starting today. Towards the end of the day Mr. G stopped by my desk to let me know that the temp would be starting tomorrow. Since he’s not sure he’ll be in at 9, he gave me the temp’s card so that I could meet her tomorrow to let her in. I guess I know what I’m doing tomorrow morning.
I need to find a book to read that will keep my attention. I got about 100 pages into Hopeful Monsters but just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I was reading it too closely after The Kindly Ones, and it was just too much WWII for me. Regardless, I haven’t picked it up in ages and I’m thinking I should return it to its owner. I started another book, but only got about ten pages into it. I don’t even remember what it was called.
A large part of not reading has to do with losing prime streetcar reading time on my commute lately. There have been some route changes and diversions and as a result the streetcars I take are now sardine cans. I can barely find enough space to stand, let alone hold open a book.
Low Key Weekend
Oct 19th
Well, this is it; the first blog post written on my new computer. I was going to write about the trouble I went through in actually getting the computer, but I figure I’ll save that for a separate post.
This past weekend was a low-key one for us. We were up early on Saturday since the gal pal had a grooming appointment and S was getting her hair did, too. It was a brisk morning when I took the gal pal out for our walk. It’d been a chilly couple of days leading up to the weekend, so much so that I started putting the gal pal’s t-shirt on her. She doesn’t love having it on, but I think she gets that it keeps her comfortable while outside.
During the gal pal’s groom, S got ready and then left for her own appointment. Not long after, the gal pal was all cleaned up and looking like a little baby. She is adorable to begin with, but after a groom, she looks like a puppy. With the groom done, we walked our friend the groomer good-bye and carried on with our day.
Fine Ideas
Oct 13th
Yesterday the TTC announced that their special constables were given new powers to fine people who are rude on the subway and buses. Apparently, constables can now fine people for rude behaviour such as putting their feet up on the seats, laying across several seats and not giving up designated seats to elderly and disabled people.
The other big issue of contention is smoking on TTC property. The fine used to be $95 but it’s now $195 with a victim surcharge of $35. I’m not quite sure what the ‘victim’ surcharge is or whose victims are compensated with the money. Last year, the special constables issued $600,000 worth of fines.
That just goes to show me that the TTC (like other city-run service) just doesn’t know what they’re doing or how to budget. They could triple the amount of money they make on fines by adding the constables to streetcars; that’s where the real money’s at. Do you know how much money could be made from the rude bastards that ride the streetcar?
Where to start?
