A few weeks ago Adam Giambrone posted a YouTube video announcing that he’s ready to be the mayor of Toronto. Last week, he filed his candidacy papers and held a party with supporters. Yesterday, his political career (and mayoral aspirations) took a hit when The Star published a story in which a 20-year-old woman claimed she had a year-long affair with Giambrone.
To back up her claims, she showed the paper text and Facebook messages purportedly from Giambrone. Kristen Lucas, the young woman, alleges that Giambrone told her that he lived with his brother, all the while living with his partner, Sarah McQuarrie.
Giambrone claims that the relationship consisted only of public meetings and text messages. Lucas says that it went beyond that as they had sex over the course of the year, sometimes on his couch in his office at City Hall.
Toronto, the Doomed

Everyone I know is budgeting, tightening their spending and being frugal. I know friends who have decided not to vacation this year. Others are working closely with financial advisors to make sure they are making sound investments. I don’t know of anyone in my extended group of friends (and family) who is spending freely. Why then, are the councillors appointed to run the City of Toronto spending and budgeting as if we weren’t deeply enveloped in a global recession?
The City’s $8.7 million budget was unveiled yesterday to the council. What first alarmed me about the budget was the city’s plans to hire about 1,000 new staff and that $8.5 million was set aside for merit pay for non-unionized city hall staff. Is this the City’s idea of fiscal prudence?
Proroguing the Perogies

So Parliament has been prorogued until January 26 (which happens to be the day before a certain blogger’s birthday). I don’t know about anyone else, but this who proproguing business sounds a lot like perogies. Wouldn’t it be something if it turned out this was all a ruse? Think about it, none of the party leaders know what the hell they’re doing on a good day. And in the midst of a global recession and the daily reports of the market’s (and our loonie) plunging, they’re all probably shaking in their boots. (Especially that Dion fellow.)
I bet all four leaders are sitting in Stevie’s living room right now enjoying some perogies with a glass of wine and breathing a sigh of relief. “Thank God we’ve bought ourselves some time!” Layton’s probably saying.
Antics on the Hill

I’m totally confused. The last I checked, this was Canada, the true north strong and free. We had our due processes and things like elections where we you know, we elected politicians into office. Which is why I don’t understand this coalition government business. Don’t get me wrong, I still fucking hate Stephen Harper and I am in no way defending him. I would love to see someone else be Prime Minister of this country, but I would rather it be done through legitimate channels and not because the opposition decided to join together in back door meetings to form shady versions of government.
Stephane Dion (hapless idiot that he is) lost the election we had just under two months ago. Canadians didn’t feel like he was the right person to lead our country but now he’s going to be Prime Minister because of some hastily thought out “coalition” government? Of course, this will only be until May when the Liberals decide on a new leader. What is this, musical chairs with the Prime Minister’s seat?
