I posted some more games on Craigslist today and got a few responses. One guy was like, “I can be at your house to pick them up on Sunday. What is your cell number and where do you live?” Uhm, slow down there buckaroo. Another guy wanted to trade; two of my games for Grand Theft Auto IV. If I hadn’t already finished GTA, I might be interested. The third guy wants one of the games but he and I are in different parts of the city during the week. We’ll have to figure out a middle ground to meet if he decides to pursue the sale.
I’ve tried a few times to sign up for my Windows 7 upgrade but the Dell site is crawling along. I’m thinking there’s quite a few of us looking to make the switch from Vista. Everything I’ve read thus far has suggested that Vista users should make the switch whereas XP users may want to stick with what they have. If my old machine hadn’t gone ka-boom, I’d have stuck it out with XP too.
An Evening with the Ladies and the Cards
Jun 27th
S and I hosted our first poker night last night. It wasn’t a game for serious players though, as we wanted to have a casual, social evening mixed in with some poker fun. We also wanted it to be ladies only. The idea came about the last time Christine and T were over for dinner. We somehow got to talking about poker and I (or S) mentioned that we’d love to host a night and now that we have the space, we think we can do it.
A few weeks ago, T e-mailed asking if we were still interested in hosting a game. We said that we were and that got the ball rolling. After all of the invites had gone out, we found ourselves with 11 players ready to come out for some poker fun. I guessed that our dining room table could seat 10 people around it (snuggly, that is) so making room for one more person wouldn’t be too hard to do.
“Would you drink it?”

For the first time in a few months, I went to a poker game last night. Because S had a previous engagement, she wasn’t able to make it, so I went by myself. I knew most of the people going, including the hosts, O and S and the always fun C & T.
I got there shortly after 7 and was surprised to see a sign warning of the use of an Oxygen tank in the unit. Is this the right door? I thought wondering if I’d taken the wrong turn at the elevator. I double checked the note I’d written on my blackberry and it confirmed I was at the right door. I knocked and was greeted by O. Upon making my way further into the loft, I saw reams of white clear tubing running along the floor and leading up to S’s face. She had the oxygen tubing under her nose.
S had recently been very ill in the hospital with what I thought was pneumonia. As C told me later on in the evening, S had something much worse than pneumonia. As a result she suffered a great deal of damage to her lungs. S was in good spirits though, such that she won the game.
I met two new people last night, a hetero couple G and D. D, the female, was kind of ditzy and G reminded me of my brother. Other than that, they didn’t stand out to me.
While waiting for everyone else to arrive, I learned that B, a complete poker rookie won last month’s game. Her streak continued as she eliminated a few of us last night. I think I came in sixth. I thought I’d made some good plays, but was always beat by B’s good luck and good hands.
As always, C was very funny and charming. She’s looking good, has lost a fair bit of weight. Unfortunately for her, the weight loss has come as a result of not being able to swallow. The poor gal’s been stuck eating soups and other soft foods because that’s the only thing that she can bear to swallow. T was quite shiny with her new blingy jacket. It was no surprise when T finished in the top three.
While we had a fair bit of laughs, the funniest part of the night had to have been when C told us about making her own buttermilk, on the recommendation of a co-worker. Said co-worker believes that this home made concoction will help with C’s digestive problems. “Would you drink it?” C asked me. “No,” I quickly replied. O, who knew what C was referring to, let her know that something similar is available for purchase at Sobey’s. I think C was going to throw out the home brew and buy some of the legitimate stuff from the store.
I hope C does throw out her home made concoction. By the sounds of it, it’ll likely turn into a gremlin and quickly spread throughout the city.
