That’s what my computer has become. I thought the system restore I did two weeks ago did the trick but upon starting it up last night I was greeted with the same DOS-like screen telling me about a corrupt system file.
If the system files are still corrupt after a complete wipe, I’m taking that as a sign that the computer is done for.
I’ll be calling Dell today, see what they have on offer these days. I looked around their site last night and saw a few laptops with 4GB of RAM and a 350GB hard drive. To that I say, Holy Shit! I’ve been scrambling with 2GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive for a while now. I’ve only had about 10GB of free space for over a year now. Over 300GB on a hard drive would be pretty sweet.
I’m getting ahead of myself here, I haven’t even called Dell yet. Who knows what I’ll end up getting. What I will be insisting on is the option to upgrade to Windows 7 as Vista equals poop.
Things will be quiet around here for awhile.
Quick Nooner

A quick post before I run out to run errands on my lunch.
The repair place I e-mailed on Sunday never got back to me. The e-mail didn’t bounce back to me so I’m not sure what their deal is. Regardless, they lost out on some business. Tried as I might, I couldn’t find the last place I took a computer in for repairs to. I think perhaps they went out of business.
Mixed Bag

Not having a (functional) computer is turning out to be an interesting experiment. I’m finding myself pretty bored as a large part of my daily routine has changed. In the morning, I have my coffee while checking e-mail and catching up with the new items in my reader. In the evening, I surf, maybe blog, tweet and search for new music. Maybe it’s pathetic to admit just how much of my time is tied to a computer, but I don’t know many people who aren’t as tied to their computer as I am to mine.
I’m busying myself by reading and watching the first season of Damages. I finished reading The Book of Negroes tonight by Lawrence Hill. It was a really good read, not overly descriptive, well researched and very touching.
I’m enjoying Damages, not as much as other shows like Dexter or Nurse Jackie, but I’ve only seen a handful of episodes thus far. It reminds me of 24, in that there’s always a twist when you least expect it. I’m sure I’ll come to like it more as the season progresses and the storyline develops a bit more.
Blue Screen of Death, Shutdown, Restart, Repeat
Sep 13th
It looks like my computer has had enough of me. The trouble that started last week has culminated in my laptop giving me the finger.
After we came home from our friends’ place last night, I turned on the laptop to check e-mail and surf a bit before calling it a night. After being on for about twenty minutes, I got the blue screen of death. I shut down the machine and turned it back on. I was expecting to get the message about a corrupt profile again, but the machine restarted just fine. Until the desktop loaded, than the blue screen came up again.
After another shutdown and restart, I was able to get back online again. I didn’t have any more blue screen interruptions the rest of the night.
Back that Shit Up

I had set aside yesterday to write about our recent trip to the cottage. My computer had other plans. Shortly after starting it up yesterday morning, I found myself staring at a blue screen of death. The message appeared to be one I’d seen before so I didn’t think much of it. Last week, I noticed that my laptop’s battery indicators kept flashing meaning that the battery was probably on its way out. I ordered a new one and hoped that it wouldn’t die completely until the new one arrived.
When the problems started happening yesterday, I figured it had something to do with the battery. Eventually, the computer restarted only to give me a strange message about the profile being corrupt and unable to load. When it got to the home screen, I knew something was up; it was like the computer was wiped clean. The desktop background was a generic image, most of my desktop icons were gone and I kept getting the “Take a Tour of XP” prompt.
