Me Want Guacamole
Aug 16th
The scene: the main floor of our house. Both S and I were at our computers at the table.
The time: Just after 8pm.
Some background: We had had an early dinner as S was left hungry after her cheese and cracker lunch. I made soup for dinner and by six, we had eaten and tidied up.
I was surfing along on the Internets, all was quiet in the house when S got up and said, “Let’s make guacamole!”
“What?” I asked.
“We have the avocados, let’s make some,” she said in her silly ‘I want something’ voice.
“Do you know how to make guacamole?” I asked, pretty sure that the answer was no.
“Well, no, but you could look it up and help me!” She replied enthusiastically.
Out of the City
Jul 2nd
S and I were just lounging around the house yesterday, enjoying our first of several days off. S had had a particularly rough three days at the office this week and was enjoying unwinding with some books on her Kindle. I was busying myself perusing the interwebs when all of a sudden, S blurted out, “Let’s go to a cottage next week!”
“What?” I asked, as I turned to look over at her.
“Let’s go to a cottage,” S said, beaming from the couch.
“Are you serious?” I asked. We hadn’t made any plans at all for our week off. We had mentioned maybe going down to Niagara Falls to play at the casinos but we hadn’t taken any steps towards booking anything.
“Yes!” S exclaimed.
Me Has Cookies
Jun 20th
The other day, S made mention of having a slight craving for cookies. Well, the craving returned tonight so guess what I set about doing? Even though it was six o’clock in the evening and we’d both been out all day, I found a recipe online and set about making some cookies.
Here’s the end result:

Castle Calls
Apr 30th
Yesterday I wrote that the main reason I haven’t blogged much lately is because of my back. That wasn’t entirely truthful; the other major reason behind my absence this week? Castle, as in the TV show Castle.
S and I had caught a few episodes of the show sporadically; we thought it was okay but nothing extraordinary. Then, out of boredom, S borrowed the first season of the show and we started watching it last weekend.
The first few episodes made me think it was cute; but as we continued to watch, the show began to grow on me. The premise of the show requires the viewer realize that the show is running quite loose and fast with how things work in reality. It’s based on the relationship between a famous (and goofy) mystery writer named Rick Castle and his adventures shadowing a tough as nails female detective. He’s able to do this because he is friends with the mayor who enjoys the publicity Castle’s presence brings to the public service.
The Boy in the Trunk
Apr 5th
The Scene: Our living room in the basement. The TV was on in the background as S was reading her Kindle and I was surfing. S put her Kindle down to reach for her mug full of tea. Out of the blue, she started talking about a TV show she liked to watch as a child.
“Remember that show, where the kid got into a trunk and then he’d end up in different places in time?” she asked me excitedly.
“Um, no,” I said, looking up from my computer screen.
“I liked that show, I used to wish I had a trunk like that,” she said. “I liked the magic.”
