Dinners and Dogs

9 Mar

I’ve written about work more than I’ve meant to lately. How’s about some tales of fun nights spent with friends?

After two cancellations on our part, S and I were finally able to get together for dinner with our friends Christine and T. Both S and I had felt pretty bad that our stomach issues had resulted in our plans being postponed, especially since we wanted to celebrate Christine’s 29th birthday. This past Friday, we went out to a happening Sushi restaurant in our ‘hood.

S and I arrived at 7:30 and only two tables in the restaurant were occupied. Given a choice of seating, S and I elected to sit in the booth in the window. “Does this place ever get busy?” S asked me as we settled in to our seats. Not long after, we were joined by Christine and T.

Christine was as bubbly as ever as we chatted about what we’ve been up to the last few weeks. Christine is a regular reader of the blog so she came to dinner with a few questions for me regarding the breakfast with executives I had participated in earlier in the week. She and S exchanged stories of frustrating HR personnel at their respective companies and then I answered her questions about the breakfast initiative at the office.

Take it like a Champ

I won’t go into detail about how crappy I felt yesterday. I’ll start with this morning; I woke up feeling much better. I wasn’t 100%, but I was close.

S had made brunch plans with her former colleague Cynthia for this morning. I was going to go to, but I thought it best that I stay home. S got up early and got herself ready. I didn’t get up until close to nine and started the day off by taking the pup out for her walk. It was pretty slushy out with the mild temperatures melting the snow we got yesterday. The gal pal was not happy with having to wear her booties, especially since they were getting wet in all of the puddles. It was a short walk as she didn’t want to be out there.

Back home, S came up from the basement, just about ready. We talked a bit about how I was feeling and Cynthia’s visit. “Are you sure you don’t want to come?” S asked me.

“Nah, I probably shouldn’t. Besides, I haven’t even showered yet,” I replied. We carried on, I enjoying my coffee and S getting dressed.

Gig-a-what?

Oh Marigold. Such a sweet woman who’s English (or lack thereof sometimes) just makes her all the more endearing.

The other day she was practically in tears in frustration as it was taking her computer ten minutes to open a file and her boss was barking at her to run some reports. “I cannot work like this!” she said, throwing her hands up in the air.

“It’s a wonder you’re still around”

Today’s been a great Sunday. What’s made it so great? A fantastic outing with friends. S and I had brunch plans with P, K, Christine and T. K and P came in from the ‘burbs together and they pulled up outside the house in a car we had never seen before. “Who’s car is that?” S asked.

“Maybe K had a man stay over and she took his car,” I quipped. P brought the two dogs (hers and K’s) into the house and then we left. On the way to the restaurant, we chatted about the car (it’s a rental while K’s car gets repaired), the week’s events and the fact that P hasn’t noticed that I’ve been wearing make-up for awhile.

We got to the restaurant pretty quickly and S and I exited the car while the girls went in search of parking. We walked inside and were told it’d be about a ten minute wait as the restaurant was busy. We were standing under a vent and the heat was overbearing. K and P joined us a few minutes later and we continued our chat from the car.

Escobar the Junk Guy

16 Jan

Our Saturday got off to an interesting start. We were expecting P to arrive just after ten to help us bring the treadmill into the house. I had also booked some junk removal guys to come from 12-2 to take away the old sectional couch from the spare bedroom so we could proceed with our plans for the room.

Just before ten, my phone rang. It was the junk guys letting me know that they had a gap in their schedule and if we were home, they could come before noon. I ran it by S and she was fine with them coming by earlier. Minutes later, P arrived and began asking questions about the treadmill. “Its 300 pounds?!” she exclaimed when S told her how much it weighed. P began asking us additional questions:
