Franz Flake Out, Deux

As it turned out, I spoke too soon. Franz Ferdinand did come in to town yesterday, but I didn’t see them. Natalie went into work and told me about getting up in the middle of the night to throw up. “I’m feeling okay now, but not 100%,” she said.
I was optimistic that she would feel better as the day progressed, but around noon she told me that she would probably leave early since she was feeling worse. She apologized for cancelling the plans but she didn’t think she’d make it through the day.
I was on my way to school to register for the class I’m taking that starts tomorrow night. I shouldn’t have left it to the last minute, but things got away from me the last few weeks. I kept thinking I had more time before class started. On my way to the school, I wrote S and told her about Natalie being sick. I mentioned that I’d ask the other gal if she wanted to go to the show since she mentioned her plans for the evening had also fallen through. S replied that if the other gal couldn’t go, she’d go with me.

Ah, Sunday night. The end of the weekend and the time we’re mere hours away from being back at work. Tomorrow being Monday usually causes me some sadness, but seeing as how the Franz Ferdinand show is tomorrow night, I’m a wee bit excited for it. I lent Natalie the band’s latest CD on Friday so that she could give it a listen over the weekend. I’m hoping that she had a chance to listen to it and that she liked some of the songs.
The weekend’s been pretty busy. Friday night we came home and just about crashed. S cozied up with a book and I dusted off the Heavenly Sword game I hadn’t played in a long time. It was one of the games S got me for my birthday last year; all of the hype around it made it sound like a great game. I gave it an honest try, but couldn’t get into it. While the graphics were amazing, the controls and game play were awkward and redundant. I found playing it again to be much of the same, but boredom has lead me to play it a few times throughout the weekend.
Saturday was spent out and about. We had made lunch plans with S’s former colleague, Cynthia. This would be the first time we’d be visiting her at home. Unsure of what to expect, we found ourselves inside a home that was still stuck in the ‘70s. There were stuffed animals, doilies and floral decals everywhere. The kitchen cabinets had apple decals on them and it looked like an old country house. I kept thinking about what Colin and Justin or Sophie Allsop would think of the home’s design.

The Franz Ferdinand show is this coming Monday and my enthusiasm about going has turned into a headache over finding someone to go with. S’s friend P said right off the bat that she wouldn’t go because she didn’t know enough of their songs. Fine, whatever.
Back in February, when the tickets went on sale, I figured I’d get two and find someone to go with. As it turns out, that was much easier said than done.
I asked K to ask her friend M (who likes the band) if she wanted to go. M was broke and suggested I ask her again closer to the date of the show. I asked S’s friend E (not her high school friend) who said that she wasn’t really interested since it was happening on a Monday night and it was standing room only, no seats.

Oh, Friday. Happy, happy, day.
Work has been pretty boring lately. There’s a project that everyone wants to get done this month (we’re launching a revision to a main site). This would be fine except more and more changes keep getting proposed. At a meeting the other day, Larry, my boss, said we were aiming to have the new site launched by the end of January. I was wondering if perhaps the month of January had extra days added to it and I was left out of the loop. My calendar says that the month is over next weekend yet the site is nowhere near done. Oi.
My days at work lately have been spent in front of my computer, logged into the company’s website software trying to keep up with the changes. The software and server are both archaic which leads to a painfully slow process. I feel like I’m getting cabin fever, always sitting at my desk, staring at the same screens and waiting for the pages to load. I’m hoping that Larry (or someone else) will put a stop to the proposed changes so that we can move ahead with the launch. I’m itching to get this project done and work on other things.
Speaking of other things, things have really started to hop along. In addition to the meeting I had with Bob the other night, I applied to an ad for someone looking for web design help and at dinner with our acupuncturist last night, S suggested I take over doing her web site. As for Bob’s project, while I’m not too enthused about the topic of the site, I can’t be choosey at this point. I need to get some practice, apply what I’ve learned, expand on what I’ve done so far and get a portfolio started.
Upon coming home tonight, I checked the mail and saw a package from Chapters addressed to me. At first I was surprised because I haven’t shopped online in awhile. I came inside and after greeting the puppy, I opened up the package. I was pleasantly surprised to find Franz Ferdinand‘s new CD inside the envelope. I was planning on buying the album – how could I not considering the boys were releasing it on my birthday? When S asked me what our friends could get me for my birthday, I mentioned Franz’s new album. That was yesterday. Just over 24 hours later, I had the album in my possession. I sent K a quick thank you text and then proceeded to add the songs to my ipod. I can’t remember the last time I had a physical CD. The few listens I’ve heard thus far are pretty sweet.
This weekend should be quiet. We don’t have any plans to go anywhere or to have anyone over. Entertaining is fun and having a house full of friends is always great. It’s the clean-up and cooking that I’m happy to miss out on.
I think I’ll spend some time catching up on updating my friend’s site and getting started on Bob’s project.
Happy Friday indeed.

Going to see Franz Ferdinand next month.
Taking M to the show, my early Christmas gift to her. She really wanted to go, so I picked up the tix this weekend.
Should be a fun night.
