I did it!
Aug 31st

I finished reading A Suitable Boy this past weekend. It took me about seven weeks to read it which isn’t surprising considering it is 1474 pages long with a small font face.
Lazy Day Ramble

How’s about a post that sort of babbles on? Ok!
I picked up our glasses today. On the way home, I opened the case containing S’s pair and was a bit alarmed; they looked a lot smaller than I remembered them being last week when she tried them on. “Oh no, this is not going to end well,” I thought to myself.
Luckily, the glasses were the right ones and S has been wearing them all afternoon. “Do these make me look geeky?” she asked me not long ago.
“No,” I replied. I asked if she was having doubts about them and she said she wasn’t. I thought they had a bit of a retro feel to them but they’re cool and she said herself earlier that they’re lighter and easier to see with than her previous pair.
Mid-week Observations
Jan 13th
This week has been a very slow moving one. This whole being at work, alert and responsive for eight hours is for the birds. I woke up this morning and was like, “damn, it’s only Wednesday.” The day was helped along by lunch with Natalie, Charlie and another gal we like.
I spent a part of my afternoon chasing down a treadmill that is on sale at Canadian Tire this week. I called four stores and none of them had it in stock. Finally, I found a store not far from S’s office that had it. She went to the store and had the run-around when the sales guy refused to sell her the treadmill.
First he told her that they didn’t have any, and then he said she was too tall for the particular machine. Then he tried to convince her she wouldn’t like it because it doesn’t go very fast. Finally, he took her to where the treadmills were and took the one she wanted to the cashier. All the while telling her that if there were any problems with the treadmill, she’d have to go directly to the manufacturer, Canadian Tire would not deal with it.
Monday Rambles

My bitch didn’t show up for work today. I’m not sure why, I was under the impression she’d be starting today. Towards the end of the day Mr. G stopped by my desk to let me know that the temp would be starting tomorrow. Since he’s not sure he’ll be in at 9, he gave me the temp’s card so that I could meet her tomorrow to let her in. I guess I know what I’m doing tomorrow morning.
I need to find a book to read that will keep my attention. I got about 100 pages into Hopeful Monsters but just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I was reading it too closely after The Kindly Ones, and it was just too much WWII for me. Regardless, I haven’t picked it up in ages and I’m thinking I should return it to its owner. I started another book, but only got about ten pages into it. I don’t even remember what it was called.
A large part of not reading has to do with losing prime streetcar reading time on my commute lately. There have been some route changes and diversions and as a result the streetcars I take are now sardine cans. I can barely find enough space to stand, let alone hold open a book.
Mixed Bag

Not having a (functional) computer is turning out to be an interesting experiment. I’m finding myself pretty bored as a large part of my daily routine has changed. In the morning, I have my coffee while checking e-mail and catching up with the new items in my reader. In the evening, I surf, maybe blog, tweet and search for new music. Maybe it’s pathetic to admit just how much of my time is tied to a computer, but I don’t know many people who aren’t as tied to their computer as I am to mine.
I’m busying myself by reading and watching the first season of Damages. I finished reading The Book of Negroes tonight by Lawrence Hill. It was a really good read, not overly descriptive, well researched and very touching.
I’m enjoying Damages, not as much as other shows like Dexter or Nurse Jackie, but I’ve only seen a handful of episodes thus far. It reminds me of 24, in that there’s always a twist when you least expect it. I’m sure I’ll come to like it more as the season progresses and the storyline develops a bit more.
