Female Lead

25 Jan

S and I were sitting at our computers on Saturday morning when a remake of the song, “Forever Young” came on the radio. The following conversation ensued:

Me: What the hell is this?
S: I don’t know, but it sucks.
Me: It seems like everything is being remade. Did you know that they’re doing a new Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?
S: They are? Who’s going to be in it?
Me: I don’t know. But there’s going to be a new Flashdance, too.
S: What?!
Me: Starring Zac Efron.
S: Oh, Lord. Who will be the female lead?
Me: [shrug]
S: Nevermind, he probably is.

Goodbye Ms. Fawcett, Mr. Jackson

25 Jun

I had a few post ideas that I was going to pursue for the this here blog tonight. All of those ideas have become overshadowed with the news of the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.

Charlie’s Angels (the original) was before my time so I was never a big fan of Fawcett’s work. I knew who she was from catching stories about her on Entertainment Tonight or online. I don’t think I ever saw a movie that she was in; at least I don’t remember watching anything she starred in. Not being a big fan didn’t mean I wasn’t saddened by the news of her death this morning. Fighting cancer is horrendous and her three year fight was no doubt filled with immense pain and fear.

I was at my parents’ tonight when my dad told us Michael Jackson had died today. He (my dad) was on the phone with his brother who had heard it on the radio. I immediately turned on the local news and caught the headline in the channel’s scrolling news ticker.

Hellooooo Ms. Rosario

29 Apr

When we watched Seven Pounds a few weeks ago, I noticed myself getting more and more taken with the leading lady as the movie progressed. Even though I’d seen her in other movies (or television shows), I had never really paid much attention to her. The lady in question? Ms. Rosario Dawson.

Katy Perry’s Dad Has Some ‘Splaining To Do

27 Feb

The Brit Awards re-run was on last night. Katy Perry went up to accept an award and S said, “she looks exactly like Zooey Deschanel.”

“Who?” I asked.

“Google her, you’ll see,” S said pointing to the laptop in front of me.

I did an Image search and was blown away by the resemblance:

Zooey Deschanel

Katy Perry

Holy. Shit. Surely, S and I can’t be the only ones to see the resemblance? They look eerily similar, more than just siblings. They could easily pretend to be the other.

Me thinks Katy Perry’s dad has some ’splaining to do…

The Beautiful Ms. Beals

19 Feb

While subjecting myself to the train wreck that is The L Word the other night, I was taken aback yet again at how stunningly beautiful Jennifer Beals is.  “She is so beautiful,” S said after a close-up on Beals face.

“I was just thinking the same thing,” I replied.

Her Wikipedia page says that she was born in December, 1963 which means she recently turned 45. I can only hope I look that good at 35, let alone 45. Beals beauty alone is enough to make one continue to watch the L Word, but her portrayal of the strong and fiercely independent Bette Porter makes the show not only watchable, but bearable.

I’ll quit my yammering and get on with the proof:
