Excel Entitlement
Jul 29th
First thing this morning, Tanner came over to my desk asking for help. “I hear you’re a computer whiz and might be able to help me with this Excel stuff,” she said. Tanner explained to me what she wanted to do and I showed her that it could be accomplished with a few simple steps. She went on her way and thanked me for saving her from having to re-type the information she was working with.
Later on in the day, I was over by Natalie’s desk talking to her about our trip next week and I figured I’d ask Tanner how things were going since I was in the neighbourhood. “Oh, I gave up on it because I didn’t know how to insert a column,” she sighed. I wasn’t sure I had heard her correctly. She didn’t know how to insert a column? In Excel?
The Heavy

The cat and I are on the outs. Although, things have looked up tonight, they haven’t been so cheery the last week. Allow me to explain.
A few weeks ago I took our little Sophie to the vet for her annual visit. Last year, all went well, she was at a good weight, her teeth were excellent and everything was fine. I was expecting a similar visit this time around.

Everything was going smoothly until the doctor opened up her mouth and told me that she had terrible teeth. I asked how that was possible when 12 months ago the other doctor told me she had great teeth. He held her mouth open as he told me the name of the condition: Feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions.
Have Camera, Will Travel

I haven’t even left for Ottawa yet, and already I’m annoyed with how things are shaping up. Or rather, I’m annoyed at how Larry’s acting.
Technically, I’m not needed until the Tuesday but since the hotel room was already booked from Monday onwards, I decided to fly out on Monday to let myself get settled before the running around started.
While Larry was away last week, Natalie and I booked our flight. The company has an arrangement with a travel service whereby they make our arrangements for us and they of course, get a cut of the deal. Natalie’s boss had said that there’d been some administrative problems with the external service of late so she suggested we just book the flight and then expense the cost when we got our invoice. Apparently, that was not how Larry wanted it done.
Wandering Videographer

My job doesn’t require a lot of travel for me. In fact, it doesn’t require any travelling for me. That is, until now. In a few weeks I’ll be heading off to our nation’s capital to attend one of our conferences.
The change in my job requirement is due to our experiment with Facebook. I’m being sent to a conference so that I can take video, pictures and write pieces of interest to add to our Facebook page. Initially, it was going to be Larry and I both going but he’s having problem with a sciatica flare up and HRH hasn’t exactly been kind to the idea of Larry attending “her” conference. For some reason, my presence there is somewhat less offensive than Larry’s.
What’s funny is that the video camera I’m supposed to take with me has not yet been purchased so we will probably rent one for me to take. I leave in a few weeks and Larry’s away this week at a separate conference in California so this camera renting business will be very rushed when he returns.
The Space Maker

How big were the first coffee makers? I ask only because I think I may have used the first ever prototype known to humankind while S and I were at the cottage a few weeks ago.
I’ve only ever known the current-day makers, the ones with the cup on the top, the water in a compartment in the back and the pot below the cup. Imagine my surprise the morning after our arrival when I went to make my coffee and encountered The SPACE MAKER:
