One gay gals' musings and observations while travelling on the streetcar
Friendly Banter
I’ve got some decent friends at work. This is apparent by our banter. Case in point, Charlie asked me first thing yesterday morning if I wanted to go for an early coffee run as she was dying for one. I said that I’d be good to go any time but we should wait until Natalie arrived to see if she wanted to join us.
Natalie stopped by my desk a few minutes later on her way in. “You up for a coffee? Charlie’s jonesing for one,” I said.
“Huh?” Natalie asked, totally confused.
“What?” I replied, unsure where I’d lost her.
“Jonesing? I’ve never heard that term before,” she admitted.
“Oh, it just means really wanting something. You know, some folks jones for a cigarette, or a coffee or a burger,” I explained.
She nodded and walked away. Not long after, Charlie, Natalie and I were heading out for coffee. I decided to tease Natalie a bit. “Hey, hurry up ladies, Charlie’s jonesing, after all,” I said.
“Ah, stop,” Natalie said.
Charlie asked what we were going on about and I explained. “What’d you think it meant?” I asked Natalie.
“I don’t know, I thought maybe it meant horny or something,” she replied.
“You just thought that because you need to get laid!” I teased.
“If that’s the case, you should come to my house, give me a break from the husband,” Charlie chimed in. We laughed and laughed all the way to Tim’s.
It’s great to have friends at work; folks I know I can talk to without worrying about it going beyond us. It makes such a difference when you can vent and shoot the shit with people.
