Exciting Morning at City Hall
When I wrote yesterday that I hoped to see a headline announcing Adam Giambrone’s quitting of the mayoral race, I didn’t expect to see it so soon.
At a news conference earlier this morning, Giambrone apologized for his indiscretions (he admitted last night to having had multiple affairs) and then left the room. An aide finished reading his statement in which he said he would be dropping out of the race to become the city’s next mayor.
To that I say, Halle-fuckin’-lujah!
Not that I thought that Giambrone had a realistic shot at winning the election, still, there are a lot of union lovers out there and he may have made it into office. The last thing this city needs is another Miller-type union enthusiast who will bend over backwards to oblige union demands.
Giambrone’s statement went on to say that he plans on staying on as chairman of the TTC and will seek re-election to city council. During water cooler talk this morning, someone suggested that Giambrone will lay low for a few years and then take over Jack Layton’s job when he steps down. That’s almost enough to make a girl want to keep Stephen Harper in office. Almost.
