Gearing up for Christmas
S and I are taking a cue from our friends Christine and T with regards to Christmas shopping this year. Christine and T don’t buy gifts for each other, instead they buy one big gift that they’ll both enjoy.
S and I have decided that the big gift we could get that we could both use is the proper set-up of our spare bedroom. When we moved in, we threw the awkward sectional from my apartment in the room. The sectional doesn’t really fit in the room and not longer after we moved in, Sophie started going into heat and relieved herself on it.
Also in the room is an empty dresser we don’t use and bags of clothes that we’ve been meaning to take to Goodwill. Needless to say, we’d rather have the room set-up a little more nicely then it currently is. S is envisioning a nice futon with a small flat-screen TV set up with the spare Blu-Ray player we’ve had for awhile.
We’ll be off for a few weeks between Christmas and New Year’s so we will be taking care of the room then. We’ll get some Junk Removal guys in to get rid of the sectional and maybe sell the dresser on Craigslist. Then, a trip (or two) to Ikea and we’ll be set.
As for presents, S and I will still be buying each other a few items to place in our stockings, but that will be it.
I haven’t started my shopping yet, but I know what I’ll be getting folks, so I shouldn’t need very many trips to the malls. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get started on my shopping next week and be done with it before the craziness in the malls starts.
I saw a few Christmas commercials on Halloween night and stores have been playing Christmas music for a few weeks now. With American thanksgiving tomorrow, retailers will really put things into overdrive. Earlier today I saw a Boxing week sale commercial for one of the furniture stores here in the city. Who knew Boxing week was pushed up a month?
In case there weren’t any commercials or carols being played on store speakers, I could always rely on the fact that Bethlehem needs to be built. My mom started it earlier this year and I’ll be helping her with that this coming Sunday. I can hardly wait. (I hope the sarcasm came through there.)
Hard to believe that Christmas is just a month away. Where’d the year go? Of course, it also happens to be a month from S receiving her Kindle. I hope they are still in stock.

We went once (relatively) early in the hopes of getting breakfast but we missed it and had a sub-par lunch instead.
You’re more then welcome to join us. Perhaps we could see each other bfore the holidays?
