Helping Hand
I’m getting me a bitch tomorrow. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? I don’t mean I’m getting a dog tomorrow, merely someone who will be coming in on a contract basis to help me at work.
We’re starting a new project where we’ll be building an entire new section on one of the web sites I look after. With the amount on my plate lately, the work day would need to be extended to 8pm for me to be able to give the new project the attention it needs.
Mr. G has told me that he doesn’t want me taken off of the web site since I’ve done a great job with it (his words), I’ve been with it since the beginning and I know everything there is to know about it. Mr. G was aware of how little time there is lately and how pissy Larry gets when I spend time on projects not directly under his sphere of responsibility, so he came up with a compromise.
Mr. G has arranged to have a contract person come in and do the ‘grunt’ work (mostly copying and pasting) and I will supervise them. I’m told that the person starting tomorrow is a female who helped our webmaster transferring our company’s web sites from our old platform to the new one earlier this year. This bodes well for me because it tells me that she’s familiar with our CMS (Content Management System) and that she’s familiar with our web site structure. I’m sure I’ll have to show her a few things but I’m not expecting a lot of hand-holding to be needed.
The only spare desk available happens to be in the midst of the event gals so it’s my hope that this new girl isn’t like them. I’d have to have to hear about yet another pregnancy, engagement or shower’s (baby or otherwise). With any luck, she’ll have a brain in her head and may even join us on our morning coffee run.
This week may end up being a bit nuts; which wouldn’t be too much of a surprise since last week was totally crazy. I need to get this one project done and off my list of to-dos. It also happens to be a project that Vortex is heavily involved in, so completing it will also limit my time with her.
It was supposed to be a relatively simple project but has spun itself into something much larger than we had ever envisioned. It’s also one of those projects where there’s always something to be fixed every time I, or anyone else, looks at it. I can’t wait until it’s done, online and considered “put to bed.”
This coming weekend will be a long one for S and I will be taking Friday and (next) Monday off. And! It’s the Cranberries concert on Friday night. I’m really looking forward to that.
So that’s that. Here’s hoping my first day supervising doesn’t totally go to hell.

So, does this mean more or less time to play?
Hopefully more, I’ve got a bunch of stuff I want to post but haven’t gotten around to yet.
