Gaga Over Gaga

3 Nov

In class tonight, I signed in to Brizzly to peruse Twitter during our break. One of the cool things about Brizzly is that it explains why a topic is trending ( as opposed to the Twitter site which just shows you what the  topics are.) I didn’t realize until tonight that the explainations were compiled by people and not aggregated off of a database.

I clicked on the “why?” link next to Lady Gaga to see why it was she was a trending topic. This is was the explanation I saw:

lady gaga trending topic

I had to chuckle at the randomness of the comment and just how funny it was. I especially liked the “^Wins the internet” line towards the bottom.

It turns out that the real reason Gaga was a trending topic was because A.J. Sokalner, a well-known photographer, died last night at an event Gaga was at. While the death isn’t anything to laugh at, I have to hand it to the folks’ out there in Internet land who were totally making those trending topics explanations worth a laugh or two.

Its easy enough to do when we’re sitting at computers. Plus, the teacher will often walk around and look at student’s work which leads to downtime while we wait for him to resume the lesson.
