The Scene: Our main floor in the house.

The day: Thanksgiving Monday.

I was in the kitchen getting dinner going and S was in the main living area, trying on a toque she recently purchased. “I want to wear a toque!” S announced gleefully.

“Huh?” I asked, wondering what she was going on about. In the almost four years we’ve been together, I’ve seen her wear a toque or other wintery type of hat maybe 3-4 times. Even during the coldest winter days, she’ll refuse to wear a toque or hoodie because she doesn’t want to mess up her hair. “You never wear hats,” I reminded her.

“I know, I just thought I could wear it around the house,” she replied, checking herself out in the mirror.

“Right,” I said.

A few days ago, S told me about a conversation with her co-worker where said co-worker told her she’d look cute in a toque. “So I’m going to buy a few more!” she said happily.

“Will you wear them outside?” I asked.

“Probably not! But I want to buy them!”

And there you have it. Cute as a button, but totally weird.
