Low Key Weekend
19 Oct
Well, this is it; the first blog post written on my new computer. I was going to write about the trouble I went through in actually getting the computer, but I figure I’ll save that for a separate post.
This past weekend was a low-key one for us. We were up early on Saturday since the gal pal had a grooming appointment and S was getting her hair did, too. It was a brisk morning when I took the gal pal out for our walk. It’d been a chilly couple of days leading up to the weekend, so much so that I started putting the gal pal’s t-shirt on her. She doesn’t love having it on, but I think she gets that it keeps her comfortable while outside.
During the gal pal’s groom, S got ready and then left for her own appointment. Not long after, the gal pal was all cleaned up and looking like a little baby. She is adorable to begin with, but after a groom, she looks like a puppy. With the groom done, we walked our friend the groomer good-bye and carried on with our day.
I was keeping busy setting up the computer with all of my files and programs. The gal pal and the kitty were entertaining themselves with naps and chasing each other around.
S had mentioned wanting to go to the ROM to see the Ten Commandments exhibit. She had heard about it on the radio and it piqued her interest. The ROM was offering half-priced admission after 4:30 so we decided to take advantage of that. After eating some lunch, we bid good-bye to the pup and made our way to the museum.
Since parking would have been a nightmare, we decided to take transit. During our streetcar ride, we saw a suspicious transaction taking place on the street. We couldn’t figure out what was being exchanged, money or drugs. Whatever it was, it was swift.
When we got to the museum, we were surprised by the long line-up already formed. We got in line as an employee on a bullhorn announced that we were looking at an hour to hour and a half wait. He also added that there was no guarantee that we would get to see the Ten Commandments exhibit since there was another hour plus wait inside.
I looked over at S and asked her what she wanted to do. She was feeling optimistic, so we settled in for the wait. The line up wound around the sidewalk and we didn’t know how long it would take to get inside. Thankfully, the weather was nicer than it had been that week so it wasn’t too bad standing outside.
We were joined by some interesting characters in the line. Behind me to my left was an older Asian woman who kept snorting crap in her throat up through her nose and spitting on the ground. When she wasn’t doing that, she was picking things out of her teeth. She had some issues keeping out of our personal space and I worried a few times that S was going to have the rage.
Directly behind us was a very loud woman, her geek boyfriend and their friend who was training to be a mixed martial artist fighter. The girl kept going on about how wonderful her iphone is and eventually took the karate kid to get some coffee. When they left, the boyfriend get on his phone and then proceeded to have a very loud conversation in a foreign language. I kept an eye on S wondering what she’d do, but she managed to keep her cool.
The line-up actually moved pretty quickly and we were nearing the entrance at a good pace. About fifty feet from the door, a lesbian security guard walked along the line and announced that the Ten Commandments exhibit was closed as they’d reached capacity. S and I looked at each other as we decided what to do next. “Want to come back tomorrow?” I asked.
“Hmm, I don’t know,” S replied. We weren’t hungry enough to go for dinner, so we decided to head home. On the way, S decided that she probably wouldn’t want to head out on Sunday morning to wait in a line-up again. I was good with whatever she wanted to do. The exhibit was going to wrap up on Sunday, so if S wanted to go see it, I was cool with that. If she didn’t, that was fine too.
“Let’s get groceries tonight and just veg tomorrow,” S said as we got seated on the streetcar heading home. Upon getting home, we collected the pup and our reusable bags and were off to get groceries. The trip was a quick one and we were back home shortly after.
S had said she wanted to watch the Chronicles of Nania movie, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. She had leant our copy to her friend and was left without a copy to watch. On Friday, I went to a local video store and rented the movie so that S could watch it on the weekend. We ordered in some Thai food and then headed downstairs with it to watch the movie.
The vegging out in front of the TV carried on yesterday as we watched the second Narnia movie, Prince Caspian, and the first two movies in the Bourne trilogy. S has a wee bit of a crush on Matt Damon, plus she loves action movies so the Bourne flicks are perfect viewing for her. I enjoy the movies too, but mostly I was glad that S had decided against watching her other favourite trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.
S loves those hobbits and walking trees. I barely made it through the movies the first (and only) time we watched them. S, on the other hand, was on the edge of her seat, she was so enthralled. I didn’t really see the need for the second movie and I thought it was just the same sequence of fights over and over again. How long does it take to get a ring up a mountain?
So that was our weekend, low-key and laid back.

Wow your new computer did a fine job. I also had a hard time with the Lord of the Rings trilogy…they are pretty movies..but boring.
Didn’t it? It even turned on after I shut it off. Shocking, I know. To be perfectly honest, I don’t totally hate Vista. Even though Windows 7 is available tomorrow, I may wait to upgrade.
This was the post that was supposed to change my life? It did not. Sadly.
No, no friend. The truth is, there was entirely too much pressure to change people’s lives so I decided to scrap that post.
