Candlelit Dinner
S and I had dinner tonight with a friend at the same restaurant we had our second date. Our second date is memorable to me for several reasons, the main one being that I didn’t think there’d be one. Also, our first outing together was during the day and it involved lunch and drinks.
Our second date was at a dimly lit restaurant where we had a nice dinner and the conversation flowed freely. I still remember to this day the butterflies I had that night. I hadn’t seen her in a week – but we’d been talking everyday on the phone for hours – and I couldn’t wait to be in her presence again. The candle on the table illuminated her perfectly, her smile warming me to the core.
While tonight wasn’t a romantic dinner for two, I couldn’t help but remember that wintry night of a few years ago. Our friend and I took a cab down to the restaurant where S was waiting for us. Upon exiting the cab, we walked down the courtyard towards S who was coming from the parking lot. Dressed in her suit, so well put together, I had this moment of yes, that’s my girlfriend, as beautiful today as she was the first time I laid eyes on her.
During dinner, I kept thinking back to our date and found myself drawn to S. I watched as she spoke and took note of the differences. Her hair is longer now and her glasses are different, but she’s still as stunning as ever.
Unlike our date a few years ago, I didn’t leave the restaurant wondering how the night was going to end. We came home together, to our home. Me and my love.
