Short Week, Long Weekend

30 Jul

I’m thinking someone either e-mailed Mr. Beatnik, or he clued in that wasting all of that time last week was not professional in the least. I wish I could say he redeemed himself last night by picking up the pace and showing us more than one tool – although that Pen tool sure is handy. Unfortunately, he blew any chance he had at redemption when someone asked him what the difference was between vector-based art and pixel-based art and he was unable to answer. “I’m totally stumped, no one’s ever asked me that before,” he stammered. He just stood there, trying to formulate a response and couldn’t come up with one.

Even though he was early and kept his hat off of his head, his not being able to answer that very basic question solidified my opinion of him – that is, I think he’s a total and complete tool. I’m hopeful that I won’t have him for an instructor once this class wraps up in a few weeks. There are web sites out there that are more useful than he is.

I took the day off of work tomorrow. When I asked for it off, I didn’t even realize it was a long weekend so I’ll have a four-day weekend. I had initially planned to spend the day puttering around the house, but S has reminded me that I should get a pedicure since I am wearing sandals more often now. (I’m really good at this girly stuff, can you tell?) As a treat, I’m taking my mom so that she can get a mani/pedi done. She’ll never go on her own so if I can help her treat herself every once in a while; then I will.

Also on the agenda for tomorrow is a visit to see my uncle in the hospital. He’s been in and out the last month or so and I’ve yet to go see him. While I don’t have a close relationship with most of my extended family, this uncle was a fixture of my childhood and he was always such a character. I’ve always thought of him as the funnier version of my dad.

A new addition to my plans for tomorrow is stopping in and buying a new green bin. I wanted to wait until the strike was over and exchange it, but things have progressed to the point that I can’t wait; I need to get a new bin. The rock I’ve been using to keep the latch closed has worked in keeping the raccoons out. The other night they discovered that by pulling on the cracked plastic in the side of the bin, they can help themselves to the stuff inside. I went out yesterday morning to discover a mess of food, shredded plastic and a whole lot of flies and mosquitoes around the bin. I need to invest in that pellet gun.

It will be nice not having to go into the office. Things have been pretty hectic lately and my boss and I have spent a lot of time together as we collaborate on tasks. Too much time together for my liking, to be honest. A few days ago, he must have spent over an hour sitting in my work station as we worked on something on my computer. He’s not as familiar with the software we’re using and he kept making incorrect assumptions about what could or couldn’t be done. What’s worse, he wouldn’t give up possession of the mouse so I had to sit there while he puttered around. A lot of my time this week has been spent cleaning up stuff he’s tried to do in the new software. I really wish he would leave the stuff he’s not sure about alone.

So far, our weekend plans consist of taking the pup back to the vet’s on Saturday morning. Her blood work from last week showed she was a bit dehydrated so the vet would like to take a pee sample to make sure everything is okay. I think she was dehydrated because P didn’t have her a/c on and the pup spent all night panting. While out in the ‘burbs, we’ll probably see the gals (P and K) – maybe we’ll do brunch. I hope there’s no shopping involved; I’m shopped out until at least Christmas.

We have plans to have dinner with our realtor on Sunday and it looks like Monday will be a day for vegging.

I love me the short weeks and extra long weekends.

Not sure why you bother with the separate bins. It’s not like S uses them, LOL.

    Enjoy your weekend!
