Phew, who knew shopping could be so tiring? Both S and I are whooped after having spent the afternoon downtown. K came over to our place shortly after 11 this morning and after S and I finished getting ready, we made our way downtown for some brunch.

We chatted and caught up on what’s been happening the last few days. We all wondered what’s lead to P’s crunchy attitude lately and we collectively hoped that whatever it is ends soon. If it could end before we got to the cottage next month, that’d be even better.

After filling our bellies with delicious pastries, fruit and breakfast items, we paid our bill and made our way to the mall. It felt more like a September day than it did a day in July. K and I had short sleeves on and we were quite chilly as we approached the mall. Funny how the heat pretty much went away after we had the air conditioning unit installed. That’s karma, I guess.

Once in the mall, we got down to business. Or rather, S and K got down to business. We hit a make-up counter where I thought S was purchasing items for herself. Wrong. “These are for you, by the way,” S said as her purchases were brought up.

“I don’t appreciate this trickery,” I mocked back in reply.

Next, we went in search of sandals because the ones I have were, according to S, “nasty.” I wouldn’t call them nasty myself, but I’d concede that they’re old and worn. While I was trying on sandals, S’s eye landed on a pair that she too liked. K was also hit with the shoe-buying bug and we left the department with three new pairs of sandals. With sandals and make-up purchased, we went in search of clothes.

Two shirts were quickly found and off I went to try them on. The first was a white, sheer item with a bow on the neckline. When I stepped out of the dressing room, S scrunched up her face. “You don’t like it?” I asked.

“Well, I’m not used to it,” she replied.

“That reaction tells me that you don’t like it,” I said. She attempted to fix the bow but that didn’t help it. The next shirt was a hit though as were most of the ones K had gone off and retrieved.

With those items purchased, we went off to the lingerie department so that I could have my bra size evaluated. When K had gone for her bra evaluation (at another store), the clerk had spent a fair bit of time with her. The lady I got today spent all of thirty seconds with me as she measured my chest and offered up a size.

The gals and I walked around the department in search of bras for me to try on. We found two rather quickly and I went to the fitting room to try them on. Minutes later, I could hear K out in the hall telling the clerk she was looking for me. When I opened the door, she had her hands full of bras. “Let’s see the presentation!” she squealed with delight. She really was having fun.

It was decided that the particular bra was too “coney.” The next one was alright, but the one after that made my boobs look like they were going in separate directions. “Are you ready for the next presentation?” K would ask while I got dressed. She was keeping the fitting room clerk entertained.

Apparently, the new bras made my breasts look bigger – I think the padding had something to do with that. S remarked, “if you were in a race, you could stick your chest out for the photo finish!”

“If you got a push-up bra, you could give yourself a motorboat!” K chimed in.

Tired of trying on bras, I picked a few we all agreed on and we made our way to the check-out. Not surprisingly, S also had some items she’d found for herself. Even though she denies it, I think she enjoys shopping more than she lets on.

After the bra presentations, we ventured further into the mall. We stopped in at this cute store that S and I both like. Quite a few items were collected by S and K for me to try on. They were really getting into this whole girlying it up thing.

While in the store, S noticed a few items she might be interested in. After a small collection was amassed, I made my way to the fitting rooms. Again, the girls stood outside of the room to offer up their advice. I ended up taking about half of the items we had collected.

At the check-out, I remembered I had some gift cards to the mall. A few of them were ones S had for years and it turned out that after a certain amount of time, money is deducted from the cards. One of the certificates had been for $50 but because so much time had passed, only $14 was left on it. I think that’s a crappy business practice myself. If someone gives someone else cash as a present, that cash doesn’t depreciate over time if it’s not spent. I don’t get why gift certificates are any different.

By that point, I was pretty much ready to call it a day but K had one more store she wanted to check out. We all agreed we needed a small break so we got some iced drinks from the Starbucks in the mall. We sat down on a ramp that was near a mall directory. I happened to glance over at the list of stores and I noticed that HMV was listed under the heading “Tapes and Records.” I had to laugh at that. When was the last time anyone bought a tape or record?

“If you’re going to be wearing skirts, you should get some flat sandals,” S said as we sipped our drinks.

“Not today,” I moaned, happy to be resting and hoping we’d be done soon.

We agreed that we’d get the new sandals another day and then walked over to the next store. While there, I pretty much gave up and didn’t agree to try anything on. K found some items for herself though. S walked over to the jewellery stands and said, “K and I decided you need some jewellery, too.”

She began collecting necklaces pretty quickly. “You’ll have to share these with me,” she quipped as she added to the collection in her hands. Hell, we can’t share our clothes, we may as well share our jewellery.

Since I hadn’t bought any more clothes at the last store, I agreed to look for a flat pair of sandals. We stopped in at two stores and the sandals there were hideous beyond belief. “Ok, let’s go home,” I said as we left the second shoe store.

“Let’s go into this one!” S said as we approached another shoe place. The sandals there weren’t frightening so I agreed to try on a few pairs. K spotted some ballerina type shoes she liked so she tried them on. S refrained from adding to her shoe collection.

New sandals added to the day’s collection of items purchased, we exited the mall and made our way home.

I thanked the gals for their time and efforts and for giving up their Sunday to shop on my behalf. “I can’t wait to see you!” K squealed with delight.

“Larry won’t know where to look when he sees you,” S said referring to my boss’ awkward nature.

I have to admit, even though it was tiring, it was nice to be the focus of the day’s venture. It was especially nice to see S’s appreciative glances.

I’m not usually one to care about what I’ll wear, but I’m pretty excited to wear my new clothes and sandals to work this week.
