Oh, Canada
1 Jul
Canada Day, the day a bunch of old white dudes decided that a few little provinces should get together a form a wee little country called Canada. Today marked the 142 anniversary of that occasion and I think we’re doing pretty good as we near the 150 mark.

This was the second year in a row that the day landed too far away from a weekend to result in a long holiday weekend. While I won’t complain about getting a day off of work, it makes for a weird week. A lot of people were out of the office on Monday and Tuesday and a lot of the folks who were in will be off Thursday and Friday.
Today was spent lounging. Our friend K is off of work this week and came down yesterday for Indian food. Since she didn’t have to work today, she stayed over with her pup, Hank. We put up the umbrella on our patio table in the backyard and sat out there and chatted. We fired up the BBQ and grilled some steaks and potatoes which turned out awesome. We enjoyed our dinner while watching Religilous. After the movie was over, K collected her things and headed home for a nap.
P was supposed to join us – actually she was supposed to host the bbq – but she got a bee in her bonnet and didn’t bother letting S know that she wasn’t coming until 4 this afternoon. Even then, she only did so by text message. By that time, we’d already finished our meals and were well into the movie.
S and I have spent the rest of our Canada Day vegging out, surfing the intertubes and reading.
There’s a fun trending topic #youmightbecanadian on Twitter that’s made me chuckle a few times already. But the best Twitter-related post/tweet has to be one from Scott Stratten:
No holiday would be complete without Google getting in on the act:

I’m glad Google chose to use the Mountie to incorporate into their log and not that other symbol of Canadian heritage.
