Hot Stuff
S and I are hot stuff. No, I’m not being a smart ass; I mean it in the most literal sense. It’s currently 24 degrees but it feels closer to 30 degrees with the humidity factored in. Our new air conditioning unit will be installed Wednesday; as in the day after tomorrow.
The main floor of the house doesn’t feel so bad and the basement is quite cool. The upstairs? It’s a fucking sauna. We have a fan running in the bedroom and the furnace fan working to try to cool the house. Curtains are also drawn and lights are kept off or on low. I made bbq for dinner tonight because I didn’t want to create any heat by using the stove, veggie steamer or any other kitchen appliance.
In case anyone is wondering, we have yet to receive a call from Sears. I knew they wouldn’t call as that would mean they actually stand by their word. We went with one of the other company’s that provided us with a quote as we really liked the sales guy. He wasn’t your typical sales person, wasn’t pushy at all, took the time to answer all of our questions and explained the different models to us very thoroughly.
Since someone has to be home during the installation, I’ll be working from home that day. Considering all of the technical and network glitches my work computer has been having lately, I’ll probably get more work done from home than I would at the office. My boss is on vacation this week so there’s no worries there about the ifs and buts about working from home – it’s frowned upon to let those of us on the lower rungs of the ladder work from home.
S doesn’t do so well in the heat. I’m pretty sure she’s going to escape to the basement any night now. While I don’t love the heat, I prefer it to the -30 winter weather that makes it hard to breathe. Plus, the heat doesn’t bring with it anything that requires a shovel and salt.
I do worry about the pup. Upon our return from our walk this morning, she was panting something fierce. During the hotter days last week she became sick and I’m pretty sure it was due to the heat.
On the upside, Wednesday is only two sleeps away and if we have to crash in the basement for a night or two, well, it won’t be the end of the world. I hope the installation goes smoothly and we can start using the a/c as soon as possible.
Yes, we’re spoiled bitches. Deal with it.

OK, well, I *was* going to call you a pussy because we are suffering from 108F heat index. But I realize that I would totally need A/C for the temps you are having. Especially at night.
Plus, I’ve never been in weather as cold as you guys get. Call it even?
I just did the temperature conversion and 108F is 42C. Motherless goat! That’s hot! It’s at night that gets us too.
But yes, our winters are pretty crazy in terms of cold so let’s call it even, Steven.
Are you cool now? I dislike the heat too… dislike actually is too mild a term. Loathe is better. I loathe the heat.
Yes, thank god! The a/c was installed earlier today and has been playing catch up trying to cool the house.
We slept in the basement on the futon the last two nights because it was stifling upstairs. Needless to say, I will be ever so happy to be back in our bed tonight!
