Our long weekend has been a pretty good one thus far. Yesterday was spent vegging out. I was spending some time in Liberty City and S was reading. Out of nowhere, S announced she wanted to go clothes shopping. “Today?” I asked, completely surprised.

“Yeah, the mall will be open and I need to get a few things,” S replied.

Since I can’t really say no to her, I agreed that we’d go later on in the afternoon. We had dinner plans with our friends C & T so we figured we’d go to the mall first and then head over to C & T’s place.

We ate, showered and went on our way. S was in a silly mood and we laughed and joked the entire drive over. The laughing subsided when the elevator we got in the mall parking lot kept going passed all of the floors. We wanted to get on the main floor, but the elevator went down first and then back up. When it did stop, the doors didn’t open right away. S and I started to feel a bit panicked; we really didn’t want to get stuck in an elevator on a holiday when the maintenance staff probably wasn’t around. The doors eventually opened and we ran the hell out to the safety of the hall.

The shopping trip went well. We each got a new bag (purse), S got the items she needed and all within the allotted time. I was glad the trip was a quick one. The mall was packed, it felt more like Christmas shopping season than Good Friday. There were crowds everywhere, not just teenagers spending their parents’ money. A lot of families, strollers and some teens and pre-teens too.

We drove over to C & T’s place and found C out on the sidewalk enjoying a cigarette. Seeing her out there took out the guess work of trying to find which place was theirs. C & T just recently moved into their new condo and this was our first visit.

Upon entering, we walked into a very modern, very chic condo; it even had that new condo smell. T came down to greet us and we were soon on our tour of the place. Highlights included a very cool microwave, impressive (yet intimidating) oven and three bathrooms. The condo has two levels and everything was set up and put away quite neatly. One of the unit’s walls is exposed cement. Apparently, the wall has incited many different reactions from visitors. Some people suggest it be painted, others suggest covering it in artwork. S had the brilliant suggestion of turning it into a rock climbing wall. I don’t think the gals went for the idea.

We enjoyed some wine and caught up with some chit-chat before heading out to dinner. It was nice out so we decided to walk around and see where our appetites would take us. We ended up at a happening restaurant that was offering a steak special.

C & T filled us in on their recent Olivia cruise where C found it difficult to make friends for the week. She said there were a lot of hundred footers, some very scary redneck types (think Oshawa, Ontario) and a Christian couple. C told us about how she was striking up conversation with some black ladies from New York. The ladies were laughing at her jokes and everything. All was going well until other black ladies arrived and C was ditched. Apparently, it was very cliquey on the cruise as a lot of the guests were there with friends and they stuck together the entire week.

I think it’d be fun to travel with C & T. We could form our own clique and ignore everyone else. Plus, we always have lots of fun – it’s hard not to when C is so funny.

The recurring theme of the night was of course, real estate. C & T have had a hectic few weeks in their new home. Even though they’ve moved in, the builders have had to come in and fix some things. As owners of an older property, we shared our tales of things we’ve had to do to our home. It seems no matter what you get, real estate ownership always requires ongoing projects and adjustments of budgets.

We went back to C & T’s place where the conversation continued to flow freely. Sometime after ten, S and I decided we’d call it a night. We all walked out while C and S enjoyed a cigarette. I asked about where the building’s main entrance was. C suggested we walk over to where it was and while there, we ran into Mike, one of the night’s security guards. He seemed nice enough, until things got weird. He somehow got to telling us about how he had been engaged, but the woman called it off at the last minute and he had spent $2,000 on the ring. It’s been four years and he still has no interest in getting involved. I stood there wondering why he was telling us all of this stuff about himself. We quickly said bye to Mike and walked away wondering what had just happened. Cigarettes finished, S and I bid good-night and came home.

It’s always great seeing C & T. Now that they’re getting settled, we hope to see them more often. Plus, they have yet to see the set-up in our basement or as we like to call it, our little cozy alcove. There’s something to be said about having great friends.
