Clean Puppies, Rest and Grocery Adventures
5 Apr
This weekend has been as low key as I expected it would be. Friday night saw a continuation of restless sleep because of our little hellions. Along with the rain and S’s congested nose, neither one of us got a restful sleep.
Our friend the groomer came by on Saturday morning for the pup’s appointments. The little head went up first. She whined and moaned like she usually does through the washing and drying. Her brother was a bit alarmed, he kept guard by the entrance to the kitchen. He was wondering what the hell we were putting his sister through. Fortunately for him, he was put through the same thing right after his sister was done. Although it was mean, S and I enjoyed watching the pups suffer a bit considering all of the sleep they’d made us lose the last few nights.
The pups weren’t the only ones suffering, the groomer was too, especially when she was grooming the little head’s brother. P (his mother) usually takes him to PetSmart where all they do is shave him down. Our friend was finding lots of mats filled with crap (literally). She wanted to shave him down a bit before washing him but the razor couldn’t make it through the fur. I carried him down to the bathtub where he was thoroughly washed. We kept hearing groans from our friend. “Oh man, he stinks so bad!” she cried.
After a thorough cleaning, drying and cutting, a brand spanking new pup was presented to us. Unlike his PetSmart grooms, he no longer had a square face that made him look like a cinderblock head. Our friend told us how bad a shape he was in. The fur on the pads of his feet was never shaved so crap kept accumulating in there. His ears were also never cleaned. They were so greasy our friend suggested that dish soap would probably be the only way to get them clean. S sent P a text letting her know how dirty her boy was. We’re hoping she’ll put in the effort and keep getting him groomed by a professional instead of some teenager at PetSmart.
During the groom, our security system guy came over to answer some questions we had about our system. He made some suggestions, hung out for a few minutes and went on his way. I worked on our friend’s web site and was happy to get started on that project. The guy who set up the site did so in a pretty dated style so that took some getting used to. If it were up to me, I’d just re-vamp the whole thing. But my friend isn’t ready for that yet, she just has some minor changes to make.
After the groomer left and I wrapped up work on the web site, S and I vegged out. Our dinner plans had fallen through so we sugggested to K that she come over for dinner. She agreed and said that she’d come over after her soccer game. The grooms had gone a bit longer so S and I figured we’d do take-out for dinner and do our groceries today.
Towards the end of the afternoon, K arrived with Hank by her side. We sorted through some take-out menus and settled on a nearby Thai place. While we watied for dinner to arrive, we enjoyed some cheese, crackers and white wine. K thought ahead and picked up a couple of movies, Marley and Me and Seven Pounds. S didn’t feel like crying so we decided to go with Seven Pounds.
Dinner arrived and we assembled our plates with our dishes. We went downstairs and popped in the movie. Unlike our last Thai experience, the food last night was really good. The movie was also pretty entertaining, the story was interesting and well told.
We had let K know that she could stay over if she wanted to. She took us up on the offer and we called it a night not long after the movie was over.
Last night saw S and I get proactive with the sleeping situation. We put a baby gate across the doorway to the bedroom to keep our dogs in and the cat out. The cat’s pretty agile so if she wanted to get in to the bedroom, she could. Thankfully, the dogs were quiet and we were able to sleep through the night without any interruptions.
We enjoyed some tea and coffee this morning while the dogs had some breakfast of their own. K had a soccer game to get to so we parted ways shortly after. S and I showered and got ready to go get some groceries. Since it wasn’t too hot (or cold) out, we figured it’d be okay to take the dogs with us and leave them in the truck while we shopped.
“I’m hungry!” S announced as we were putting on our coats.
“Uh oh,” I said.
“I thought you should know,” she said while searching for a snack. “I need carbs!”
With a Nature Valley bar in hand, S lead us out to the truck. We got to the store in no time and quickly set about collecting the groceries we needed. Our cart full, we were nearing the last aisles we’d need to visit. “I want to eat lots and lots of Chef Boyardee” S said as we walked passed a Chef Boyardee display.
“Want to get some?” I asked, not sure if she was being serious or not.
“No,” she replied, shaking her head. “It wouldn’t be wise.”
Through the frozen section, S’s attention was grabbed by a package of frozen Pillsbury Doughboy Crescent dough. “I want it!” she said as she placed it into the cart.
On our way to the cashier to check out, I suggested S get some Mac ‘N Cheese for a night that I’m not home for dinner. “Okay!” She excitedly replied. I thought she was going to get the Kraft stuff, but she went into the frozen foods section where she returned with a frozen entrée of Mac ‘N Cheese. “I want this one!” she said, her eyes alight with excitement.
We paid for our groceries and made our way back to the truck where the puppies were both looking out the back passenger window.
When we got home, we put the groceries away and S set about baking her crescents. I set about starting on the site I have to put together for my class while S baked. The crescents turned out pretty tasty and they hit the spot since we were both feeling hungry.
The rest of our Sunday has been spent vegging out. S still isn’t feeling a hundred percent so a low-key day is exactly what we needed.
I’m so glad this coming week is only a four day work week. The best part is S and I are seeing our friends C & T next weekend when we go over to see their brand spanking new digs. It’s always a fun time with them. Now, to just make it through the week.
