Birthday Bowling
It was my birthday the other day; I am officially in my “late twenties.” Following my boss’ example, I took the day off of work. I spent it with the little head and littler head surfing, playing video games and listening to the new music I’d gotten. I think S felt bad about not taking the day off too, but I understood that she had entirely too much on her plate at work and it wasn’t feasible.
I had extra vacation days from last year and the thought of spending my birthday working on the company’s antiquated content management system trying to work on the new site made my pants sad.
When she got home from work, S surprised me with flowers and the present I had asked for: a handwritten card. Having a birthday a month after Christmas is hard for gift-buyers because I’ve already gotten everything I wanted a few weeks prior. So when S asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I kept it simple: a nice card with some words from my love was all I needed.
S took me out to dinner where we had a nice Thai meal and then made our way home.
Tonight we will be going out with K and P for dinner and bowling. I have never been bowling so I’ll be poppin’ my cherry this evening. When we had talked about what to do, we initially suggested going to a comedy club. The truth is that we’ll probably create more laughs on our own bowling than we would from sitting watching some amateur comedians.
My hope is that tonight does not play out like the night we had for my birthday last year. That wasn’t fun for anybody, especially Murray the cat. P has already e-mailed to say she won’t be bowling because she hurt her hip shoveling snow this week. I don’t know if that’s true or if she’s just being a party pooper. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that tonight is fight-free and that no cats are antagonized. Otherwise, I may be the one to get the rage.

What a sweet birthday gift.
Any chance of seeing video from this bowling event? Sounds like comedy gold.
I’m sure it would have been very funny and I even remembered to bring my camera. Alas, and it wasn’t meant to be.
It was a pretty good night though. Save for the bad steaks, shit weather and white knuckle driving haha.
Happy belated birthday. And I like the low key celebrations…
I have NEVER been to a comedy club. I just realized that…
Thank you, Maria.
I’ve never been to a comedy club either. Or bowling for that matter…
Welcome to your late 20s. It gets better for the next 10-12 years and then you’ll slowly begin the descent into aches and pains — someone has to tell you…:)
Oh, I know, I’ve been watching S deteriorate for a few years now…
Wait, what would you know about aches and pains, you’re only a year older than me.
