The Release of Coltrane
11 Dec
Updating the Wordpress software that powers this blog usually requires a fair bit of patience while files are backed up, downloaded, zipped, unzipped and installed. It isn’t something I usually look forward to, as I’d rather be posting to the blog instead of updating the backend of it.
That’s all changed with the latest release: 2.7 (dubbed Coltrane) is ready for download and it looks pretty damn sweet!
I’ve been reading the 2.7 updates as they’ve come along so the anticipation has been built up a fair bit. How can I not get excited when 2.7 offers comment threading, being able to reply to comments from the dashboard, being able to post from the dashboard, the ability to drag and drop to fully customize your admin area, installing plugins from your admin area and the best one: never having to do a manual wordpress update again. Everything will be done from within the dashboard/admin area. Even without the other features, not having to do a manual update is worth installing 2.7.
Over 150 people contributed code directly to this release and thousands more helped it along with their opinions and survey responses. To those folks I say thank you. Thanks for making my ability to blog, rant, rave, express myself so much easier, and fun.
