I really should update my WordPress software to the latest release, but I just finished watching this week’s episode of Dexter and would rather talk about that.

dexterI love, love, love this show. The writing is fantastic, the acting superb (especially Michael C. Hall) and the story is just so well told. I’ll be the first to admit that this season didn’t lure me as quickly as the first two. I thought it was going along rather slowly and the main case Miami’s finest were pursuing (the skinner) didn’t seem very interesting to me. Quite frankly, neither was Miguel’s impending friendship with Dexter.

In the first season, we were introduced to Dexter and his way of thinking. We caught glimpses into “the code” he was taught by his foster father and then sat on the edge of our seats as he and the Ice Truck Killer’s paths crossed. In season two, viewers were shown the possibility that Dexter wouldn’t have to hide, that someone other there understood him. Too bad Lila was just as fake as he was.

This season kind of felt like a repitition of last. Instead of Lila trying to earn Dexter’s trust, it is Miguel. The dynamic is a bit different (don’t want to say too much for those not yet watching season 3) but it still felt too similar to last year’s premise.

The last two episodes have totally changed my mind. Dexter is finally feeling something real – anger and resentment and it will be interesting to see how things play out. Although, I think we all know Miguel’s going to end up wrapped up in tape and strapped to a table. And am I the only one who thought there’d be a lesbian connection made between LaGuerta and Wolf (the defense attorney)? There appeared to be some looks of longing on LaGuerta’s part in the last episode. ShoTime is the same network that gave us The L Word, would a lesbian relationship on Dexter really be that far of a stretch? This ‘mo doesn’t think so. Plus, with other networks getting the gay panic, I’ll take representation wherever I can take it.

I’m not sure how many episodes are left in this season, but I have a feeling they are going to be pretty damn sweet to watch.
