The Power of Billboard Advertising
While on our way back from P’s Birthday BBQ (there’ll be a separate post just for that), S noticed a billboard advertising the new Tim Horton’s Iced Capps. “I’ve never had one of those before, they look yummy,” S said. (S is severely lactose intolerant.)
We continued on our drive home. We were minutes away from our building when S asked excitedly, “Wait, doesn’t Starbucks makes those with soy?” Her eyes began to dance with excitement. “I think so,” I replied.
“Is there a Starbucks around here?” she asked. I mentioned there was one a few blocks from where we were. With that, S continued to drive passed where we usually turn in to go home. We ended up finding a Starbucks location before the one I had mentioned. S quickly pulled up and let me know her order, “Decaf soy mocchachino please!”
I ventured into the coffee shop and asked the girl behind the counter if it would be possible to get two decaf soy mocchachino’s. “Sure,” the girl replied.
After the girl gave me the drinks, I noticed that they were hot. I thought about this for a minute, S had wanted something cold, like the Iced Capp. I figured I’d bring them to the car and let S decide if she wanted a cold drink afterall.
Being the klutz that I am, I knocked one of the drinks over and spilled it all along the counter. The girl was nice about it. She made me another drink and didn’t charge me for it.
I eventually got back to the car. “Umm,” S began. “Those are hot, aren’t they?” I replied that they were. “Do you want me to go back inside?” (The girl behind the counter would surely have thought me nuts then.) “Its’ ok,” S began. “I can just put some ice in it when we get home.”
Shortly after getting home, I removed the lid from my drink and let S smell it’s rich aroma. Her eyes began to glaze over, like that of a child in a candy store. She quickly took the lid off of her drink and basked in it’s rich moccha sent. She had a few sips and the 12 year old in her came out. “This is yummy!” she announced. For the next few minutes, she was in the moccha zone!
Even though S had originally wanted a Tim Horton’s Iced Capp, I think she’s now a Starbucks fan. Ah, the power of advertising.
