One gay gals' musings and observations while travelling on the streetcar
Tracy the Confused Grocery Gal
For whatever reason, I’m usually the one in our household who answers the door. We order our groceries online because quite frankly, it’s more convenient then going to the store ourselves. Anyway, there is one particular grocery delivery woman, let’s call her Tracy, who is always quite chatty with me whenever she drops off our groceries. As it turns out, C & T (who also order their groceries online) have had Tracy drop off their deliveries as well. However, Tracy doesn’t seem to be as chatty with them as she is with me. Now would be a good time to mention that Tracy is what’s known as a hundred footer.
One time, I wasn’t home when the groceries were being delivered so S had to answer the door. Tracy did a double take and was like, “oh, you weren’t who I was expecting.” The following time after that, I answered the door and Tracy let me know that she had been taken aback the previous visit because “some other woman answered the door.”
We ordered groceries last week and they were due to be delivered on Thursday night. As is usually the case, the driver called to let us know they’d be arriving in the next few minutes. Tracy also let S (who answered the phone) know that her debit system was down and we’d have to pay with credit. Since it was S’s card, I couldn’t very well sign for it, so S was stuck answering the door.
When the knock came, S made her way over and opened the door. Tracy was bent over picking up some boxes and began making conversation, that is, until she looked up and saw that I wasn’t the one at the door. She quickly began stammering and stumbling around, “oh, uh, I wasn’t expecting you. Someone else usually gets the door….” It took all of S’s strength not to burst out laughing in Tracy’s face. Nevertheless, as soon as the door closed, S began to howl.
Is it bad to laugh at the poor delivery woman’s expense? We should really be more honest with her and explain that there’s two people living here, and not just me. But really, why should we when we’re getting so much entertainment from it?
