I finished reading A Suitable Boy this past weekend. It took me about seven weeks to read it which isn’t surprising considering it is 1474 pages long with a small font face.

I’m not entirely too sure how (or when) it happened, but I’ve become our department’s go-to person when it comes to tech queries. We do have an IT department but getting them to look at anything requires setting up a work ticket which then gets ignored for weeks on end.
Recently, I had to ask our network guy to look into why one of our printers wouldn’t connect to our network. It took over two months and many follow up emails on my part before he came downstairs and had a look at the problem. Needless to say, if someone’s having an Excel, Word or content management system problem, they ask me first.
I’m fine with that. Most of the time, it’s something I know how to do. The other times, I have to Google it and then I end up learning something new. I know that Larry doesn’t like it when I spend time not working on something that’s directly related to my job. To avoid him getting his knickers in a twist, I usually help when Larry’s on lunch, in a meeting or it’s close to my lunch time.
Anyway…

S and I went to crazy town this afternoon. Allow me to explain:
S’s biological mother Pearl, who is quite a hypochondriac, is in hospital recovering from heart surgery. As long as S has known Pearl, she has suffered from some disease, condition or other with Fibromyalgia being a constant affliction.
When Pearl was over at our place a few weeks ago, she mentioned the possibility of having surgery in the near future. S and I weren’t quite sure if she was exaggerating or if it was a legitimate claim. As it turns out, she had surgery this past week. S couldn’t help but be skeptical as a previous operation that Pearl had said was for one thing actually turned out to be for a tummy tuck.

I talked to my boss today. I asked him on our instant messenger if he had a minute and he replied that he did so I walked into his office, closed the door and told him I wanted to talk to him about our conversation yesterday.
“Which one?” he asked.
I told him which and I said that I was surprised by his reaction to my having gone ahead and posted the page. “You seemed very surprised that I did that, and it made me think that maybe you felt I shouldn’t have done that.”

I’ve worked with Larry for three years now. In that time, he’s impressed me with his fairness and his intelligence. He’s also irritated me beyond belief with his cheapness and nit-picky ways. Today, his obsessive need to control everything really irritated me. So much so that I think I’m going to have to talk to him about it.
Some background:
We (Larry, Lights, J-Mac and I) are working on a project together. This project involves dealing with our clients. A component of the project was to be posted online for our clients to access – we had set ourselves a deadline of last Friday. Since it was online, most of the work fell to me; which was fine.
Larry had booked last Thursday, Friday and yesterday off. He hoped to have everything ready to post online before he left on Wednesday but that didn’t happen as there were too many components to deal with. When he left, he imparted on me his strong desire to have the material up by the end of the week.
